Process Owner Production

Can you give us a brief description of your career path?

I started as a trainee at Norske Skog in Walsum and qualified in 2002, after which I worked as a machine operator.

By 2014 I needed to change and develop personally, so I looked around for a new job. I had developed a deep interest in paper that was still very strong, so a career other than paper maker or paper technologist was out of the question. It could not be any other profession.

So, in 2014 I applied to the Fritz Peters paper mill in Gelsenkirchen, which was taken over by Hamburger Rieger in the same year. Starting in March, I got the chance to work as a stand-in operator on the paper machine.

In this position, I worked my way through all the departments of the paper mill so that I was able to master all the work station tasks independently on my own. This worked so well that, within a year, I was able to stand-in for every work station or job, ranging from raw material supply and stock preparation, to the 1st and 2nd PM assistant, and right up to RSM Leader and Machine Leader.

In May 2016, I was given the opportunity to move out of shift work, by accepting a change to the logistics area. Here I was employed as a Quality Controller for incoming raw materials.  I was also able to perform very well here, and soon stepped up to cover Foreman and Assistant Manager of raw materials and logistics at the same time.

The greatest opportunity for me personally, so far, came in July 2019 when the Company was looking for someone to take responsibility for production at the Gelsenkirchen site. I didn't have to think for a long time before submitting an application.

Thanks to the confidence placed in me by the site and production managers and other personnel involved, I have also been able to seize this opportunity.

Up to now, I have performed very well in this position, so that part of the time I take over responsibility from the Head of Production when she is not on site.

All in all, I can definitely say that I love my job as a Process Owner Production. It contains everything that I find so interesting in paper making. In particular, it is the prospective projects as well daily discussions with colleagues from all departments that give me such a positive feeling and continuously give me new motivation for the future.
