With the completion of our major expansion project and the commissioning of a second paper machine, Spremberg has grown into the largest production site of the Hamburg Containerboard Division. With an annual output of around 840,000 tons of paper, the mill plays a vital role in delivering high-quality and sustainable packaging paper to customers across Europe.
About Hamburger Containerboard Spremberg
Employing approximately 485 people, Hamburger Containerboard Spremberg is among the largest employers in the region and a key contributor to the local economy.
The site produces high-quality white uncoated corrugated containerboard as well as premium coated papers under the RiegerCoat Economic brand. In addition, a variety of gypsum linerboard grades are manufactured, reflecting the site’s broad expertise and commitment to delivering innovative paper solutions.
Important progress was achieved with the installation of the first boiler support for the power plant expansion. The site's commitment to education and workforce development was also recognized with the Brandenburg Apprenticeship Award.

With the start of construction of Paper Machine 2, the Spremberg site initiated a major capacity expansion project. The investment laid the foundation for increased production volumes, improved efficiency and long-term business development.

The refuse-derived fuel power plant entered continuous operation, while the expanded waste paper storage area increased site capacity. Another milestone was reached with the production of 2,222,222 tonnes of paper.

The successful boiler pressure test marked a major milestone in the construction of the Spreerecycling power plant. Shortly afterwards, scheduled trial operation commenced, allowing all systems and processes to be tested, optimized and prepared for reliable commercial operation.

The site successfully completed its transition to 100% white paper production, presented plans for the future power plant and reached a major production milestone with one million tonnes of paper produced.

The inauguration of Paper Machine 1 marked the official launch of production in Spremberg and the beginning of the site's successful development.

Following the topping-out ceremony, Paper Machine 1 entered the trial operation phase. During this period, all systems and production processes were tested and fine-tuned in preparation for the successful start of commercial production.

Any activity, regardless of its nature, is only considered to have ended when the working environment has been tidied up and cleaned properly and all tools and consumables have been properly returned or stored in the designated places.
Plant and equipment must be left or handed over in accordance with regulations. Within these activities, special rules, for example with materials handling equipment (forklifts, hi-reach platforms, cranes, etc.) must be adhered to.
If you notice any work being improperly executed, or see hazards or other deviations from the regulations described here, you are obliged to report this to your supervisor or the contact person responsible for you in the company.
Take personal responsibility for tidiness and cleanliness by leaving your workplace and work environment in a good state.
