Since 2013, Hamburger Containerboard Spremberg has been operating a waste-to-energy plant in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park. The plant uses the energy contained in the waste to generate electricity and steam in a combined heat and power plant, taking into account high environmental standards and state-of-the-art technology. The neighboring paper mill is fully supplied with the process steam required for production. The electrical energy is fed into the public power grid.

In the RDF cogeneration plant, various municipal and commercial waste from external deliveries is thermally recycled by mixing in the waste paper rejects and fiber sludge produced in the paper mill.

The company employs 50 people.
