A successful conference was held in co-operation with the Paper Section of the Hungarian Technical Association of Paper and Printing Industry (PNYME) in Dunaújváros, in the Visitor Center of Hamburger Hungaria, on 18 October, 2019.

In the beginning of the professional program, the 3 – now privately owned – companies of the former Hungarian Papermaking Company presented their activities in the spirit of sustainability.

The first presenter was Attila Bencs, Managing Director, talking in details about the role and place of Hamburger Hungaria within the Prinzhorn Group and the Hamburger Containerboard Division with regard to paper production, the development and improvements of the Dunaújváros site and Paper Machine 7 in the last decade, with special regard to measures taken for the increase of capacity, environmental protection and energy efficiency.

Representing Dunafin Zrt., part of Delfort Group specializing in special types of paper, Ivo Planeta, Managing Director (right), and Balázs Hanák (left) , Quality Manager, gave a presentation. Today, Dunafin exclusively produces release base paper. To ensure cost reduction and quality improvement, numerous production technology investments were implemented in the last 3 years, moreover, the waste water treatment plant was also modernized. Serious efforts aimed at product development are taken in the recently started R&D laboratory, and it is their utmost objective to increase energy efficiency.

Later on Szilárd Széles, Managing Director of Dunacell, operating as the Hungarian company of JRS (J. Rettenmaier & Söhne), explained how their paper mill was transformed in recent years into a food fiber production unit.

Dr. Gyula Madai, expert at Óbuda Technical University, gave a helpful presentation regarding the new requirements related to food packaging.

The conference ended with a factory visit in Hungary’s newest paper factory – specializing in hygienic paper – in Dunaföldvár, the Vajda-Papír Kft. The company was started in a garage 20 years ago, and now it has significant market positions not only in Hungary but in Scandinavia as well, having both processing and production operations in Norway.

The event was hosted in Dunaújváros and the date was dedicated to the 10-year anniversary of Paper Machine 7, as the unveiling ceremony of the paper machine was held on 16 October 2009. The Hungarian Paper Museum created a new temporary exhibition to remember this anniversary.
